And the bride wore...
Here are some of 2010's bridal fashion trends to give you a head
start on the process.
Grab your control panties because body-skimming shapes in slinky
fabrics are in and are likely continue their reign over bridal design
for a few seasons yet to come.
Reason to love: If you have a great figure then more power to
you, you're likely to be able to pull looking fantastic in fabrics with
physical properties akin to liquid that hug curves and leave little to
Reason to snub: Every lump and bump will be visible in this
unforgiving style, so if you have any reason to think you won't be
confident or comfortable in this glamorous look then it's best to
steer clear. And not to fret because there are plenty of other
fabulous styles in fashion this year that won't require a boot camp
training regime to pull off.
Princess of the ball
For those of us who would rather eat live spiders than wear
something that draws attention to our thighs, we happily present
the return of the ball gown as popular bridal attire. This fairytale
style of dress really does suit so many different types of shapes and
sizes and it does everything we want it to, cinching in waists and
propping up cleavage.
Reason to love: You can't really go wrong with a classic ball
gown style of dress. For each little girl who has dreamt about
walking down the aisle looking every bit the fairy princess, this style
delivers in confetti loads. It can be as plain or elaborate as you wish
and any colour of the spectrum.
Reason to snub: Usually strapless, some brides may find this is
not an appropriate style for them and it is also likely you will need
help getting out of it...although that isn't necessarily a bad thing.
True rock and roll girls will love the fact that fifties style glamour has
returned to the bridal couture scene. From full swing skirts to
hourglass figures, this decade has enough variety to please any bride
after the perfect vintage look. And the accessories are to die for, think
belted waists, gloves, boleros sleeves and short jackets.
Reason to love: Fifties fashion is all about looking polished and
ladylike and so for the bride that wants to look elegantly tailored and
a little bit different, this is the decade to embrace.
Reason to snub: High necklines may be irritating for some brides,
especially if you were hoping to show off décolletage on your big day.
Elegant and slightly mysterious the Grecian look is achieved with
floaty fabrics falling from a high waist. Folds of luxe material
draped to floor sweeping lengths give this ethereal style
Reason to love: Paired with gold
accessories, like a plaited headband and
chunky cuffs, this look is unique and
really does stand out.
Reason to snub: The voluminous nature
of the fabric in this style does run the risk
of making you look frumpy and adding
bulk, particularly if you are big busted.
Every woman wants to shine on her
wedding day and this year's trend toward
metallic textiles and embellishments will
help you do just that. Glittering gowns
with gold and silver detail are hitting the
runways and dazzling plenty of brides-to-
be with their sparkle factor.
Reason to love: Who doesn't want to
feel like a sparkling jewel on their
wedding day? Almost any style of dress
can be made in metallic fabrics or
embossed with metallic details.
Reason to snub: Most people either suit
gold or silver and some lucky ducks suit
both, so approach with caution. If you are
not one for sparkle steer clear because
too much can make your look busy and
hopping for a bridal gown is one of the most anticipated
and exciting parts of any bride-to-be's wedding plans.
Even if you haven't been cutting out pictures of your
dream dress since you were five, this is a time most
brides relish. There is nothing like walking into a gorgeous boutique
full of the latest designs in bridal fashion, just waiting for you to try
them on. It is a significant moment that is all about you feeling like a
princess and being treated like royalty. Our advice -- enjoy the
experience, take your time and don't let anyone push you into
anything you aren't comfortable with.
